Rock United

Rock United is an annual music festival founded by Johnny St Lethal. It was first held in 2001. In the past, it has been held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at The Rhythm House, Club Laga, Mr. Small's Theatre, South Park's Pavillion, and will be held in 2010 at The Rex Theater. The main attractions are the music acts performing, however, the fifth Rock United also featured film and art.
History
2001
In 2001, Johnny St Lethal, a prominent figure in the Pittsburgh Ungerground music scene, founded Rock United, a music festival for underground musicians to unite and rebel against corporate rock radio and other foes of independent artists. Lethal held Rock United at The Rhythm House, then called Pop Edward's, and artists such as Phewzen, Real Vision, and Brian Boyd.
2003
Rock United II was held at Club Laga in Oakland, Pittsburgh in 2003. The Peace, Zero Anthem, Nicole Reider, At Random, Once Nothing, and Johnny Swolltrain and the Messy Antics all performed.
Later in 2003, Rock United III was held at the same venue. It was then decided to be an annual event. Rock United III's performers included Inate, Once Nothing, Lemonade Stand, Daizy Cutter, and headliners 3 Car Garage, The Peace, and Code Green.
2004
Rock United IV was scheduled for 2004, but because of inconvenient scheduling with Lethal and his band, The Peace, it was not carried out
2005
Rock United IV was eventually held in 2005 at Mr. Small's Theatre in Millvale. The Known World, A Great Fall, Cali-AC, Clearview, and Inate performed.
2006
The theme of Rock United V was "Save Our Scene." It focused on the idea of the decline of the unsigned music scene, and the potential resurrection of it. Performances were by A Great Fall and Beejae, aka Johnny St Lethal. This was the first year that art and film were featured as well as music. The festival was held at South Park's Pavillion, and was sponsored by local radio station 105.9 "The X." This was also the first all-day concert.
2007
Rock United VI featured Terry Meyer Band, Anti-Hereo, Beejae, and Brandon Mitchell. The theme was "In The Clubs." It was held at The Rhythm House. It was here announced that Brandon Mitchell, Beejae, and Jeff Bets would be joining together to create .
2008-2009
The theme for Rock United VII was planned to be "Old School," but later was changed to "Bring Pittsburgh Rock Back" when it was postponed until 2009. The Show, T.J. Cornwall, Recession, Johnny & The Razorblades, and Words Not Spoken performed.
2010
Rock United VIII is scheduled for August 14, 2010 at The Rex Theatre. The confirmed headliner is The Show, with 12-14 bands expected to perform.
