Roberto Carlos Martinez

Roberto Carlos Martinez (born April 29, 1983 in El Salvador) is a poet and short story writer. He has been labeled as a modern confessional poet. He currently resides in Virginia. His first poetry book, The Blue-Eyed Monster Dragged Me into Love, was nominated for a 10th Annual Library of Virginia Literary Award in the category of poetry and for a 2007 Indie Excellence Award.
Robert Bausch called Imperfection in a Perfect World "crisp and original and honest."
Content and themes of works
Martinez is seen as both fragile and strong in his writing. He has been compared to a young Pablo Neruda or even giving off a sense to Rumi, but at the same time compared to Sylvia Plath. His work encompasses issues such as depression, child abuse, love, death, the destruction of the rainforest and much more.

Early Life
Martinez was born on April 29, 1983 in El Salvador. He moved to the United States in February of 1992 and has resided in the state of Virginia ever since.
