Dr. Robert Ashley Michael (1937 to February 25, 2010) was an American historian. He was Professor Emeritus of European History at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where he taught the Holocaust for nearly 30 years. He published poetry, more than 50 articles, and 11 books on the Holocaust and the history of Antisemitism. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Boston University in Philosophy, and received his M.A. and Ph.D. in European History at the University of Connecticut. In 1997 he received the American Historical Associations James Harvey Robinson Prize for the "most outstanding contribution to the teaching and learning of history." Until his death he lived in Murfreesboro, Tennessee with his wife, writer Susan Michael.
