Early crimes
In 1987, at the age of 17, Robert Maday was arrested in the state of Florida in connection with charges of robbing and assaulting a pizza delivery driver. Before the trial, he escaped from a juvenile detention center. After being re-captured by police, he was convicted of robbery, kidnapping, burglary, grand theft, conspiracy to commit a felony, aggravated battery, unlawful possession of a firearm while engaged in a criminal offense, and resisting an officer without violence to his person. He was sentenced to 15 years, but served less than four, being released in 1991.
The state investigators who were overpowered, allowing Maday's escape, were relieved from active duty, pending a formal hearing. Maday is being held without bail, pending additional sentencing on October 30, 2009.
