Robert J. Myers

Dr. Robert J. Myers retired on January 27, 2011 as a Professor of Communication Studies from Baruch College, CUNY, after 38 years of service. Dr. Myers was Chair of the Department of Communication Studies (1992 to 2006 and (founding) Director of the MA Program in Corporate Communication (2000 to 2006) in the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences at Baruch.
Dr. Myers received a B.A. in Communication Arts and Sciences from Queens College, CUNY in 1969, an M.A. in Media Theory and Criticism from Queens College in 1973, and a PhD from in Sociology in 1977. His doctoral dissertation was on "Fear, Anger and Depression in Organizations: A Study of the Emotional Consequences of Power."
Dr. Myers is the co-author of six books in the field of business and professional communication, numerous articles, book chapters and presentations at professional conferences.
Dr. Myers was also the founding director of the Bernard L. Schwartz Communication Institute at Baruch College, a position he held from 1997 to 1999.
Dr. Robert J. Myers was the Executive Director of the Association for Business Communication from 1994 to 2007. During that time he also served as Managing Editor of the Association's publications, the Journal of Business Communication and the Business Communication Quarterly. He was President of the Association for Business Communication in 1991. The Association for Business Communication is the primary academic organization for the field of business communication scholarship, research, education and practice.
