Robert E. Love

Robert Edward Love (born May 1, 1955 in New York City, New York) is an American businessman, former government official, and retired military officer. Love is the founder and current President and CEO of Daedalus Solutions, LLC, a consulting firm based in Northern Virginia. Love served as the Executive Director, Expeditionary Business, Task Force for Business and Stability Operations, Office of the Secretary of Defense 2005 to 2010.
Education
Love holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Albany, a Master’s Degree in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College and is a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College.
Military Career
Love retired as a Colonel in the United States Marine Corps in August 2004. Love’s career included a variety of command and staff assignments, to include command of a Marine Wing Support Squadron and a Special Purpose Combat Service Support Detachment. He led the Marine Corps Capstone Modernization Effort, a flagship enterprise regarded by military and industry organizations as a model for transformation.After the September 11, 2001 attacks, Love served as the Officer in Charge of the Reconstitution Liaison Support Team (RLST) and deployed to Kuwait/Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Upon his return, he was assigned as the Senior Logistics Advisor, Marine Corps Combat Development Command, Quantico, Virginia.
Department of Defense
After retiring from the Marine Corps, Love served as the Deputy Director for the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Logistics Systems Management), supporting major logistics system modernization efforts.
From October 2005 until June 2006, Love established the War fighter Support Office (WSO), Business Transformation Agency (BTA) and served as its’ first Director. He was a founding member of the BTA and WSO. In his role as Director of WSO, Love worked across the Department of Defense, Secretariat, Service, and Combatant Commands to evaluate DoD business enterprise processes and associated systems affecting contracting, logistics, fund distribution, financial management in order to align to the theater commanders needs.

From 2006 until March 2010 Love, as a member of the Senior Executive Service (SES), served as the Executive Director, Expeditionary Business in the Task Force to Improve Business and Stability Operations (TFBSO), Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). TFBSO worked in close cooperation with various agencies, the international business community, non-government organizations, and local governments (Middle East, Afghanistan, & Sub Saharan Africa). Love was directly involved with foreign direct investment, value chain integration, and industrial revitalization.
Private Sector
After leaving federal service Love has worked in the private sector as Strategist, Logistician, and International Business Leader. He was the Executive Director, International Campaigns (Support Solutions) BAE Systems, Inc., from March 2010 until July 2014. Mr. Love led the Company’s capstone effort to develop business opportunities in key locations around the world.
In October 2014, Love founded Daedalus Solutions, LLC. Daedalus Solutions, LLC provides strategic analysis, international business solutions, and thought leadership services to a variety of U.S. and international clients.
Publications
Love has authored several articles including, “Operation Iraqi Freedom - Marine Corps Logistics at Its Best?”, “Integrated Logistics Capability - an Imperative for Change”, and “Expeditionary Business in the 21st Century”.
Recognition
Love is the recipient of eleven personal military awards for outstanding performance of duties and has received the Federal Executive Association Distinguished Public Service Award for Outstanding Supervisor/Manager/Officer. Mr. Love has been designated a Professional Logistician by the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT).
In November 2010 Secretary of Defense Robert Gates awarded Love the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service, the nation’s second highest civilian award, for his work with TFBSO.<ref name="BAE Systems’ Bob Love Receives U.S. Secretary of Defense Medal" />
