Ritu Abbhi is a social worker and a teacher based out of Noida, India. She tutors underprivileged children from her own home. Background Ritu holds a bachelor's degree from IP College, Delhi, and a bachelor's degree in Education from Kurukshetra University. Ritu has been a member of the Social and Development Research and Action Group (SADRAG), an NGO, and is also a member of the Lioness Club. Through these engagements, Ritu has focused on critical development issues like education, women’s empowerment, child protection and violence. She has worked with the grassroots, where she got to observe the challenges that rural communities faced and provide sustainable solutions. Her classes for underprivileged children began in 2012 and continues to date with 25 students attending currently. Ritu conducts these free classes in her living room in Noida. Her classes help those that already go to school to study, in addition to helping those who don't have the luxury of going to school. The children are aged from 5 to 14, and come from backgrounds where access to education is barred owing to financial constraints. Ritu's efforts were curated as a case study on India.
