Dr Rima Morrell is a British anthropologist and writer, and is the co-founder and director of an animal sanctuary in Scotland. She was educated at Westminster School, and studied Social Anthropology at Cambridge University. She holds a Ph.D. in Geography from University College, London, where she specialized in Hawaiian Culture. She lectured to undergraduates at the Universities of London and Hawaii, and to postgraduates at the Open University. She is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Morrell is the author of two books on Huna, and has spoken at institutions ranging from the British Museum to the University of London and the Research into Lost Knowledge Organization. Her most recent book, Travelling Magically, is about how to travel, and also considers how best to contact indigenous cultures and benefit from local knowledge, drawing on her anthropological experiences. In 2005 she co-founded The Living Ark animal sanctuary with Dr. Den Greenhow, which rescues agricultural animals, and provides a home for people who may be temporarily in need. The Living Arkbecame a Scottish charity in March 2006. The only animal sanctuary in Britain run by doctors, its articles include the bringing of humans and animals together for therapeutic purposes, as well as the promotion of the health benefits of vegetarianism.
