Major Rijome Yasoji Kawahara (1904 - 1945), was a Senior Japanese officer and aide of General Sosaku Suzuki, during the Battle for Cebu City during World War II. Career and Death He was the leader of the Japanese Headquarters Unit during the Battle for Cebu City, after General Suzuki fled to the mountains to hide. On April 8, he and his soldiers made a last stand on the border of Mandaue City and Cebu City. He was incapacitated by indirect mortar fire, which was followed by a tank shell blast. He was dragged by his troops, but told them to leave him so that they could defend the position for the honor of the Emperor. While he was trying to crawl back to safety, a sniper of the 182nd Infantry Regiment spotted and killed him. After the Battle, his troops succeeded in taking his body back to Japan to be buried.
