Rifqa Bary

Rifqa Bary (born 1991 or 1992) is an American-Sri Lankan convert to Christianity who ran away from home, fearing that she would be the victim of an honor killing. Born in Sri Lanka to Muslim parents, her family immigrated to the United States in 2000. Bary claims that she was a Christian for a number of years, before her parents discovered that she had been baptised. Fearing the Muslim practise of honor killing, she ran away from home in 2009, aged 17. She travelled from her home in Columbus, Ohio to Florida before she was found, and placed into foster care there. She and her family are awaiting a legal ruling on her custody.
