Richard RoBards

Richard B. RoBards (born October 1, 1946) is the former publisher of the Central Kentucky News-Journal, a twice-weekly newspaper published by the Landmark chain in Campbellsville, the seat of Taylor County in Kentucky. RoBards came to the News-Journal in 1972 and remained until his retirement in the summer of 2008.
RoBards, a native of Springfield, the seat of Washington County in Central Kentucky, described his journalism career, accordingly, “It's been great to work for a company for a full 36-year career, doing something you love and with people and a community you enjoy. I've been blessed beyond belief, really. I couldn't have asked for a better place to live, raise a family and work."

RoBards served in the United States Army. He graduated from the University of Kentucky at Lexington with a bachelor’s degree in communications and marketing. From 1972-1975, he wrote and edited sports and covered community events and public meetings for the News-Journal. He managed papers in Springfield and Mount Washington in Bullitt County, before he returned to Campbellsville in 1979 as general manager. He was subsequently named publisher and also regional manager of four area weekly newspapers in Hodgenville, Lincoln’s birthplace in La Rue County, Lebanon in Marion County, Liberty in Casey County, and Springfield.

Even after he assumed management of other newspapers, RoBards continued to snap photographs and cover news event where ever he happened to be in order to maintain a “hands-on” interest in the community. RoBards served on the Campbellsville Chamber of Commerce board of directors for three terms and was the chamber president in 1996-1997. Additionally, he was named “Citizen of the Year” in 1982 and ”Chamber Member of the Year” in 1999-2000. He was active in the Big Brothers program. RoBards and his wife, Linda RoBards, who is a retired educator, have three children, Margaret A. RoBards (born ca. 1970), John R. RoBards (born ca. 1976), and Theresia Lynn “Terri” Russell (born ca. 1979), and two grandchildren.
