Rene Cloukey

Rene Cloukey is an Assistant News Director and Sports Director for WAGM-TV, who has been reporting on local sports since 1984.
Early life
Rene was born in Sheridan, Maine, and was educated at Ashland Community High School and the Northeast School Of Broadcasting in Brookline, Massachusetts. Prior to joining WAGM, Cloukey worked for WSJR Radio in Madawaska and WLVC Radio in Fort Kent, was the Program Director of WDHP Radio in Presque Isle and WFST Radio in Caribou and was named the Runner up Program Director of the Year by Cashbox Magazine.
News and sports career
While at WAGM, Cloukey was named the Maine Sportscaster of the Year in 1997, 2003, 2004 and 2011. He has also been named Media Person of the Year by Maine Special Olympics and was honored by the Maine Athletic Directors Association and Maine Basketball Coaches Association. Rene also received a Hero Award from Special Olympics International. It was the first one given in the State of Maine.
Cloukey's most recent sports coverage was of the UMFK Bengals playing for the 2011 USCAA national tournament in Asheville, North Carolina, from October 31 to November 5.
Other work
Cloukey is a member of the Aroostook County Special Olympics Area Management team and is President of the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club. For years, Cloukey has organized a golf tournament for Special Olympics and is the Sports Information Director for the Sunrise Athletic Conference.
Personal life
Cloukey lives in Presque Isle, Maine with his wife Phyllis and their three children AJ, Angela and Amber. AJ, who is a Red Sox fan, is married to WAGM news anchor and reporter Shawn Cunningham, who is a Yankees fan.
