Richard Paolinelli is the author of several novels, books and short stories. He is also a former sports writer, photographer and editor for newspapers and websites across the United States. He won the 2001 California Newspaper Publishers Association award for Best Sports Story while with the Turlock (Calif.) Journal. Early professional life Born in Turlock, California in 1964, he began his writing career as the lead writer for the Elite Comics series, Seadragon, in 1986. He began his sports journalism career in 1991 with the Gallup Independent before writing for the Modesto Bee, his hometown newspaper Turlock Journal, San Francisco Examiner, and several online publications. He was the Sports Editor for the Turlock Journal, Merced Sun-Star and Tracy Press and spent the last few years of his career serving as a a sportswriter/photographer. Novelist After retiring from newspapers in 2012 he returned to his first love in writing, fiction, but also kept in touch with his sports writing career. He quickly released two short stories - The Invited and Legacy of Death - then in 2014 he released Maelstrom, published by Tuscany Bay Publishing, a science fiction novel. In August 2015, after two years of research, he released From The Fields: A History of Prep Football in Turlock, California. A non-fiction narrative of the 95-year history of high school football in his hometown. The following month Oak Tree Press, a small traditional publisher released his mystery-thriller, Reservations, the first of a four-book series surrounding the main character, Jack Del Rio. Betrayals, the second book in the series is set to be released in the fall of 2016 with Shades to follow in 2017 and the series finale, Endgames, to be released in 2018. He was also selected as one of 12 authors to write an original Sherlock Holmes mystery to be published in the Belanger Books anthology, Beyond Watson, to be released in June 2016.
