Richard Joyce Walker

Richard Joyce Walker was an english Freeman of Newcastle, chartered accountant and economist who served as a Royal Navy First Lieutenant and Commanding Officer during World War II. He was the European director of Deloitte, Haskins & Sells 1958 - 1968, and was Her Majesty's Government financial adviser to former British colonies between 1977 - 1984.
life and career
Richard was born on 21 February 1922 in All Saint's, Newcastle upon Tyne, England. He was the yonguest child of John Duguid Walker (1880-1961), a notable Newcastle judge and solicitor, and Ada Russel (1879-1977). He was educated at Malvern College, Worcestershire and Trinity College, Cambridge where he studied mathematics. In 1941 he entered the Royal Navy and trained on the HMS Ganges. In 1942 he was posted on the HMS Boadicea before entering officer's training.
After the war he continued reading mathematics at the University of Cambridge and entered the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. Walker was employed by the Colombo Broker's Association in Sri Lanka. He returned to Europe when he became the European Director of Deloitte based in Milan, Italy. He retired in 1968 and lived briefly in Menton, near the Italian border on the French Riviera. Richard Walker became employed by the British Government as an Economic advisor to the governments of newly established countries.
Richard died in July 2008 aged 85. His funeral took place in Holy Cross church, Binsted and his body buried in the Walker family tomb in Newcastle upon Tyne.
