Richard David Smith (age 26) is an American Soldier in the United States Army. He is currently being held without bail at the Cumberland County Dentention Center in Fayetteville, NC. He is charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, for the stabbing death of his wife Sgt. Christina E. (Loehrke) Smith, also in the United States Army.
Biography ---- Smith was born and raised in Denton, TX and currently resides in Fayetteville, NC. After joining the Army in March 2005, Richard Smith completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. followed by basic airborne training at Fort Benning, Ga., in 2006. He completed advanced individual training at Fort Meade, Md., before his assignment to the in February 2006. He deployed to Iraq in August 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and returned June 2007.
Demise Sgt. Richard David Smith told investigators that he discussed killing his wife — Sgt. Christina E. Smith — with Pfc. Matthew Wayne Kvapil, 18, on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, according to a narrative showing probable cause for an arrest warrant submitted by Fayetteville police. Christina Smith was stabbed in the neck Tuesday night as she and her husband walked down Baxter Street in the Hillendale community in north Fayetteville. Richard Smith also was taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital, but a police spokeswoman said he was not injured in the attack. Any military actions involving the Soldiers arrested have not been determined yet.
