Richard Anthony Jay is a British composer, songwriter and producer. His first solo album This Is What I Live For was released in August 2009 on independent record label, Burning Petals. Biography Richard Anthony Jay is a self-taught musician & composer. When Richard started working in the music industry at the age of 16 his main interest was writing his own music. He began work in a recording studio as a trainee sound engineer, where he discovered new music which interested him after a co-worker gave him a copy of The Serpent’s Egg by Dead Can Dance, an eclectic, critically acclaimed London-based alternative band which launched the career of Lisa Gerrard. In the early days of his music career Richard was strongly influenced by other 4AD bands like Cocteau Twins and This Mortal Coil, yet was also a big fan of artists as diverse as Stevie Wonder and Henry Mancini. Whilst working as a sound engineer at a studio in London, Jay was encouraged by a colleague to focus on his own music, after he overheard some of Jay's music. A year later the studio closed allowing him to focus on composition. For almost ten years, he worked in Pop music, with various artists in and around London, eventually founding Burning Petals Music, a publishing and production company. During this period, he was signed by Universal Music Group Japan; had publishing deals with BMG Riccordi, Warner/Chappell Music, Groove Addicts and PolyGram, and his music was used by Sony Pictures, Nintendo, Paramount Pictures and FOX amongst many others. However, he eventually grew tired of Pop music and became burnt-out. At the age of 30, finding no pleasure in music anymore, Jay took a break from writing music, and taught Music Industry at the European School of Economics in London. He also wrote a book on the music industry for Music Sales (). He started working on his first modern Classical album, 'This Is What I Live For' in 2006 which re-ignited his passion for music and for composing. In December 2007 he was selected by an "independent panel of industry experts" to be a member of Screened Music. He is currently working on a Classical chill-out side-project, named "Marble Hill". A track from this project was released by British Phonographic Industry for their 'British Music at MIDEM 2007' CD. This Is What I Live For Richard Anthony Jay's debut album featured guest performances from members of Britain's longest-established symphony orchestra, The Hallé, as well as Grammy-winning Uilleann pipes player Davy Spillane. The album has been featured in publications such as MUSO magazine () and has received attention from music blogs including The Silent Ballet. The album has been featured on BBC Radio 3's Late Junction, has ranked highly in New Age Reporter airplay charts, and one of its tracks, "Milan", was selected by The Association of Independent Music as a celebration of indie music at 2009's 'Independents Day'
