Ric Hassani

Ikechukwu Eric Ahiauzu (born January 6, 1989), better known by stage name Ric Hassani, is a Nigerian born singer and songwriter. In 2012, Hassani released his first single called "Dance Dance Baby Dance". He then released a follow up "Double Double" produced by Dj Coublon. In September 2015, he became the first Nigerian artist to headline the Lake of Stars Festival in Lilongwe, Malawi, alongside Uhuru and Toya Delazy.
Early life and education
Ric Hassani was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Blessing Ahiauzu, a University librarian, and Augustine Ahiauzu, a Nigerian academic. Ric grew up in Port Harcourt, where his father was a professor of Management sciences at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology. The name 'Ikechukwu' in his native Ogba language means 'the power of God'.
As both parents were academics and worked in the same university as a librarian and professor, the family lived on the campus. Ric grew up in an academic environment and, as either as a function of that, or being that both parents where academics, he grew up a serious geek. He graduated from Covenant University in Nigeria in 2009. In his university days, he performed on stage as 'Rico Slim', then well known for the song titled "Tomorrow". He then attended the University of Surrey in England to study Energy Economics and Policy. After graduating with a masters degree in 2013, he relocated to Nigeria to pursue his music career full-time, moving between Port-Harcourt, and Lagos State.
Career
Ric Hassani is the owner of his own independent record label, Riverland Records, and is currently in partnership with 303 Trademark Records Africa, and affiliated with 5Music music distribution Nigeria. He is a founding member of The Across Group, a group of lifestyle management and concierge companies in Nigeria established in 2015.
