Rewaj Chettri is an Indian entrepreneur best known as the founder and CEO of NEOrigins, an e-commerce marketplace dedicated to promoting indigenous products from Northeast India. He is also the founder of NE Taxi—a tourism-oriented taxi service operating across India, Nepal, and Bhutan—and SikkimFarms, which supports local poultry farmers. A serial entrepreneur with over 30 ventures to his credit, Chettri was recognized with a Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia award in 2018 for his contributions to the consumer sector.
Early Life and Education
Born and raised in the state of Sikkim, Chettri developed an early interest in entrepreneurship. He attended local schools such as Holy Cross School, Rockvale Academy, and Sadam Senior Secondary School before pursuing a degree in Forestry at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science. His academic background in forestry and his early exposure to regional culture laid the foundation for his innovative approach to business and his commitment to leveraging local resources.
Career
Chettri’s entrepreneurial journey began during his college years. In 2013, while still a student, he launched NE Taxi from his dorm room with a modest bank balance. The service was designed as a secure, tourist-oriented taxi platform that connected travelers with local drivers. Building on the success of NE Taxi, he later founded NEOrigins, an online marketplace that bridges local artisans and producers with wider markets—helping to promote the unique cultural heritage and products of Northeast India. Additionally, Chettri established Sikkim Farms to support local poultry farmers by streamlining the distribution of their produce.
Entrepreneurial Ventures
Over the years, Chettri has diversified his business interests by launching more than 30 enterprises across various sectors including tourism, e-commerce, agriculture, and media. NEOrigins, one of his flagship ventures, has garnered significant attention and investment. In a notable pre-seed funding round, the startup achieved a valuation of approximately $2 million, attracting investments from high-profile angel investors such as Indian football legend Bhaichung Bhutia.
