Reuben Haines III

Reuben Haines III (February 8, 1786 - October 19, 1831) was born into the wealthy family of Caspar Wistar Haines and Hannah Marshall and married Jane Bowne. They both moved into Wyck House, making it their permanent residence after living in Philadelphia beforehand. Haines found himself mixing with high-end gentlemen, such as Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette and Rembrandt Peale. Another close friend was architect William Strickland, who remodeled Haines's home in 1824.
Haines was a proponent of education reform, prison reform, and the abolition of slavery. He was also a member of the American Philosophical Society<ref name=aps />
