Reservestridsproviant

Reservestridsproviant (meaning reserve battle provision in Norwegian), normally abbreviated as RSP is a canned food made for the Norwegian Army. Main ingredients are beef, pork, peas and pork fat. Among the additional ingredients are gelatine, starch and preservatives meant to keep the can contents edible for 20 years in an air-sealed can. RSP is sold in some shops, and is quite popular because it is very easy to prepare over a campfire or portable stove. A similar commercial product is sold as Snurring. Recently, the Army has started phasing out RSP in favor of the Drytech Field Meal.
Other names
RSP has been around a long time, and a number of names for it have been coined over the years.
* Død mann på boks or "canned dead man" or "dead man in a tin" is the everyday name for RSP in both civilian and military use
* Tysker på boks or "canned German", probably coined after the Second World War, less used today
* Rester av Sprengt Personell or "remains of blown-up personnel", jokingly used in the military
