HeroBracelets.org was created in 2004 to produce memorial bracelets to honor those lost in the Iraq War and the conflict in Afghanistan. The project makes aluminum bracelets bearing the names of those killed in action on both conflicts. Every bracelet sold allows the organization to donate $2 to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
At the time of the organizations development, military families received a $12,000 death benefit from the government. The founder of HeroBracelets.org, Chris Greta, felt that that wasn't enough. At this time, the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund doubled the government payment with another check for $12,000. It was decided that donations from the production of HeroBracelets would go to the fund.
100% of all donations going to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund went directly to the families.
HeroBracelets have expanded to offer other styles of customized memorial jewelery as well as customized bracelets for military personnel deployed and wounded in action.
The organization also produces a bracelet to raise money for the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
