Requiem for a Handbag is an episode from Season 3 of the critically acclaimed police drama Hill Street Blues, written by Mark Frost and directed by Robert Kelljan. It first aired on November 18, 1982.
"Requiem" is notable because it stars the late Dominique Dunne (November 23 1959 – November 4 1982), who was killed by her abusive boyfriend, a popular Los Angeles chef named John Thomas Sweeney. Coincidentally, Dunne plays a teenager who has been constantly abused by her mother. The bruises she has in the scenes are reportedly real, inflicted by her boyfriend the day before she began filming. The episode was Dunne's last TV appearance, and was aired two weeks after her death.
