Redhairday Netherlands

The Redhairday is a annual event in the Dutch city Breda.

the intention of this day is promotion of the phenomenon red hair and art.

2005

Painter and organization Bart Rouwenhorst placed an add in the paper for redheaded women and girls to be a model for his paintings. The starting-point was finding 15 models. There were so many applications that Rouwenhorst decided together with Jan Eijsbouts, owner of Cultural Center InDeBrouwerij, to organize a real redhairday meeting.
So the first Redhairday was held on 24th september2005 in Asten.
On this day there were several photoshoots and opera-singer Annelie Brinkhof sang. The highlight of this day was the photoshoot of all the 150 redheads of that day.

2007

On 2nd September 2007 the redhairday was held for the second time. Only this time the interest was much bigger; 800 redheads came together in Breda. The activities of this day found place in and around the Big church (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk). In the church there were expositions of 16 photographers and 1 painter, with a total of 85 pieces work of art. Next to this there were expositions in Café Galerie Dante and a photo exposition in Café de Bommel.
Scientist drs. Tim Wentel gave a lecture about the origin an medical meaning of red hair. From genetic background till all the fable and facts there are about redheads.
Several cafés and restaurants organized special extras like a bellydance workshop in loungerestaurant De Sultan of a free bonbon at a chocolatestore boulanger or free strawberry at café de Bruine Pij.
This day there were a lot of free photoshoots bij proffesional photographers: Ton dirven, Mery and Ton C. Kroon. The highlight of this day was also the photoshoot in the Valkerbergpark. Here were 581 redheads model for several groupshoots bij Bart Rouwenhorst and the media was there to report this event.

2008

On 7th september 2008 (website will follow soon) there will be a third edition of the redhairday. This edition will be bigger and better, nicer and more suprising. The organisation hopes for 2500 redeads. And 6 months before the day there are 1500 applications from 9 countries (America, Austalia, Belgium, Netherlands). There are over the 100 artists who wants to participate.

To make this day a succes we need a good pr. And thats why 2 people of the organisation are in New York to participate there on St Patricks day for the biggest redhairday (6 million redheads).
