Red and Black Ribbon

The red and black awareness ribbon is used to identify oneself as atheist. It was first used as a symbol for atheism with the creation of Atheist Solidarity Day (June 21). Its main purpose was to create a movement whereby atheists are more visible so they could help fight the negative stereotypes about atheism and create a more accurate view of atheists in the public's eye. It is also used to show solidarity with some other atheists who have to hide their atheism because of the harmful reactions from their society. The ribbon is used to protest for change, celebrate the freedom gained in some areas to be open about one's atheism, and general atheism awareness raising. Its colors were inspired from a similar campaign that used red and black in their graphics.
