Rap in Minnesota is part of the music genre known as Midwest Hip Hop. It is sometimes called "Northside hip hop" or "Twin Cities Hip Hop." Twin Cities hip hop fits the categories of alternative rap, underground rap, or conscious hip hop besides Midwest Hip Hop.

There are many hip hop labels in Minnesota, though the biggest labels are Rhymesayers Entertainment, a hip hop label which houses Atmosphere, and Urban World, which houses Beluga Heights recording artist Auburn DC-CASH .
Twin Cities hip hop
Twin Cities hip hop is hip hop or rap music that originates from the Twin Cities metropolitan area in Minnesota. The Twin Cities Celebration of Hip-Hop also known as The Hip Hop Fest is an annual event founded by Larry Lucio, Jr. and Toki Wright in 2002. It is hosted by YO! The Movement and brings together people from all walks of life to celebrate the power of community through hip hop culture. In addition to featured performances from national headlining artists and local acts, The Hip Hop Fest includes battles in the following categories: MC battle, DJ battle, B-Boy/B-Girl battle, beat-box battle, and production battle.
During the first five years, almost 20,000 performers and visitors from around the world took part in the festival and conference. Past participants include Slick Rick, MC Lyte, Cee-Lo Green of Gnarls Barkley/Goodie Mobb, Clipse, Camp Lo, Crazy Legs, Slug of Atmosphere, Jean Grae, Asia-One, EWOK (HM Crew), Brother Ali, Derrty Boy Bingo, and many others.

*KCMP 89.3 (The Current) - Plays Twin Cities hip hop in regular rotation, as well as the weekly show Redefinition Radio
*KUOM 770 AM (Radio K) - University of Minnesota College Radio. Home of the Beatbox show.
*KTWN-FM 96.3 (B-96) - Now plays all music and is not strictly Hip Hop
*KCLD 104.7 - plays hip-hop along with other popular genres of music, including R&B, country, and pop.
