Ranjit Edward

Ranjit Trevor Edward FRAS (Born: June 8, 1962) is a Sri Lankan born Indian astronomer and writer. Most famous of his writing was on Mass and Time Dilation based on the General Theory of Relativity. He was awarded Fellowship at the Royal Astronomical Society in 2002. In 1998 he calculated the exact time of the Leonid Meteor Shower[http://sundaytimes.lk/981115/plusm.html#LABEL2] a very accurate calculation without the assistance of any optical instruments in Sri Lanka. He is highly regarded for his talent in the mathematical and theoretical conceptualization of time and mass dilation. During the period 2005 to 2008 he intensively researched the area of Astrology. His work is due to be published. He currently resides in Sweden.
Early Life
Was born on June 8, 1962 in Mount Lavinia, a suburban residential township bordering Colombo, the city of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). His father, Jeyaraj William Edward worked as a senior executive officer for The Hatton National Bank, formerly known as The Mercantile Bank. His family belongs to the Nadar community, originally hailing from the village of Sarvakaramadam, Thirunelveli district, in Tamil Nadu, South India. He grew up in Colombo and was educated at S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia a prestigious private english school. His interest in Astronomy began at an early age and had mastered the entire Zodiac and all major Constellation in the equatorial hemisphere by the age of 10. He demonstrated exceptional mathematical skills at school, notably with the works of Pythagoras and Non-Euclidean geometry. Some time in 1976 at a science fair, he met Sir Arthur C. Clarke who eventually became his mentor that lead him to pursue his interest in Astronomy. In 1983 a huge (See Black July) ethnic conflict broke out between the minority Tamils and the majority Sinhalese. His parent decided to move back to India and settled in Madras (Now Chennai) the city of Tamil Nadu. During that time, he went through a period of conflict and change; A 'Awaking of realism to the soul' he later said. From active involvement in Tamil Militancy to non-violence. In Chennai he obtained his degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology and in 1988 he completed his post graduate studies at The National Institute of Information Technology in India in Advanced Systems Management. In 1988 he married Heshani Sothiraj in Chennai and moved to Dubai to further his professional career. They divorced in 2002 and he has remained single since then. In 2002 he was made a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society
2002-present
He has remained a private person and maintains a clear distinction between his profession and interest in Astronomy. 'Never make your passion a business' he has quoted many times. In 2002 he set up his own Telecommunication Startup company in the United Kingdom. In 2005 he sold off the company and moved to Sweden and made a small town in the swedish country side, Ulricehamn his home. He currently resides there and works in various parts of Europe.
