Rabbi Uri Pilichowski

Uri Pilichowski (December 1976 in Brooklyn, N.Y.) is a rabbi.
Brooklyn, New York
Rabbi Pilichowski lived in Brooklyn for the first five years of his life, attending the Yeshiva of Flatbush. While in Brooklyn his family attended the Congregation of Beth Israel in East Flatbush where his grandfather, Tobias Pilichowski, was a president and active member. At five years of age the Pilichowskis moved to Fair Lawn, New Jersey. Rabbi Pilichowski attended congregation Shomrie Torah of Fair Lawn, N.J. led by Rabbi Benjamin Yudin a mentor and teacher to Rabbi Pilichowski.
Fair Lawn, New Jersey
Rabbi Pilichowski attended Yavneh Academy day school for elementary school where he was close to Rabbi Eugene Kwallwasser. After graduating Yavneh Academy, he attended Torah Academy of Bergen County for half of his freshman year and then attended the Frisch High School. While in Frisch he founded the business and culinary club, along with playing mascot as the Frisch cougar. As a student in Frisch he became close to his teacher, Rabbi Steven Weil, later his mentor at Congregation Beth Jacob in Beverly Hills, CA. While at Frisch Rabbi Pilichowski led a chesed program for his high school and various other community activities. He also appeared on the cover of Frisch's first music release.
While still in High School, Rabbi Pilichowski became the youth director in his synagogue in Fair Lawn, New Jersey.
Mevasseret Zion, Israel
After graduating Frisch, Rabbi Pilichowski went to Israel to learn Torah at Yeshivat Sha’arei Mevaseret Zion for two years and then became a dorm counselor while continuing his Torah education. It was as a dorm counselor that he got his first taste of teaching. He also attended a SUNY school while in Jerusalem, Israel. After marrying Aliza, Rabbi Pilichowski joined the Meretz Kollel, a Kollel for Israeli men, who upon completing their studies go out and develop communities in Israel and the Diaspora, and Rabbi Pilichowski did just that! After learning in Kollel Meretz, Rabbi Pilichowski began studying in the Kollel of Yeshivat Sha’arei Mevaseret Zion. While learning in Kollel in Eretz Yisrael, Rabbi Pilichowski taught and mentored younger Yeshiva boys. After completing his Rabbinical studies, under the supervision of Rabbi Sinai Adler, he moved to Los Angeles.

Pro-Israel Activism
An Israeli citizen and former member of the Israel Civil Defense, Rabbi Pilichowski prides himself in his involvement with the Pro-Israel community. Rabbi Pilichowski is a Capitol Club member of AIPAC and has won national awards for his Pro-Israel activism. He writes weekly divrie Torah for AIPAC, and with AIPAC’s help began the first Synagogue teen pro-Israel group. After its initial success, Rabbi Pilichowski was able to partner with YULA, YICC and JSU, to extend the program to teenagers throughout Los Angeles.
Visits to War Ravaged Israel
In both of Israel's most recent conflicts, the second war in Lebanon and Operation Cast Lead in Gaza, Rabbi Pilichowski went to visit the soldiers during these battles.

Writing
Rabbi Pilichowski also enjoys writing; he is the author of three books, a book on time management, called "Eis La'asos L'Hashem,” “The Sedra,” on the weekly Torah portion and "The Moadim," which discusses the festivals. He writes no less than five weekly columns on topics ranging from parenting advice to practical halachah. He also writes a widely distributed weekly Dvar Torah newsletter for both adults and kids.

In March 2004 Rabbi Pilichowski arrived at Beth Jacob with the title of "Rabbi of the Youth." In March 2006 Rabbi Pilichowski was promoted to the position of Assistant Rabbi. His new responsibilities included taking part in life cycle events, teaching, pivotal involvement with the minyanim, and contributing with the youth of Beth Jacob.
Rabbi Pilichowski is the Assistant Rabbi of Beth Jacob Congregation in Beverly Hills, CA. In his job at Beth Jacob, Rabbi Pilichowski wears many hats. Besides his Rabbinical duties, Rabbi Pilichowski assists his wife Aliza with the youth department. Shabbat can find him running the hashkama minyan and then the best teen minyan in town, while during the week he is usually found at local eateries with the kids. As head of Beth Jacob's Kollel, Rabbi Pilichowski matches charuvot with kollel members for weekly learning. With all of this, Rabbi Pilichowski finds time for his favorites, teaching Torah at five local schools, Hillel, YULA boys, YULA girls, Maimonides and JSU's Torah high.
Rabbi Pilichowski worked closely with Beth Jacob's senior Rabbi Steven Weil until his departure in May 2008 to head the Orthodox Union.
In July 2011, Rabbi Pilichowski resigned to take a position in Florida.

Rabbi Pilichowski has lectured before many groups, organizations, synagogues and schools. Rabbi Pilichowski has lectured before the the United States Congressional staffers, Keter Torah, Pacific Jewish Center, Yeshiva University, the Orthodox Union YouthCon, OU's Kollel Yom Rishon, AIPAC's Policy Conference, Young Israel of Century City, Toras Shraga, and BIOLA college.
