The Purple Turtle is the name of a group of burners, mostly visual and performance artists as well as engineers and photographers, that is based in San Diego. Collectively known as 'purple turtlers,' they create a camp that provides a large public 'chill space' known as the Purple Turtle Catnip Lounge at Burning Man and other regional events and art festivals in or near San Diego. Purple Turtle Catnip Lounge Also known as PTCL, the Purple Turtle Catnip Lounge is a . decorated shade structure designed and built by Purple Turtle. It was originally known as the Purple Turtle Playasylum when it made its first appearance at Burning Man 2004. It took the name of Purple Turtle Chill Zone when it made its debut at Fuego de los Muertos later that year. It made its most recent appearance, (under the current name) at Xara Dulzura 2006. PTCL served as the community area for Shangri La Village at Burning Man 2005. The Purple Turtle Funky Fiesta, the first independent Purple Turtle event, took place in July 2005. Now they are working under DreamWorks in California Purple Turtle A purple turtle is a fun thing to say especially when saying it with an accent and is used to name and trademark several businesses including a nightclub and a mechanic dealership. Although there is no actual purple turtle that is known to exist. There is a chain of bars in (Reading, Oxford and London, UK) called The Purple Turtle.
