Burlington derailment

The Burlington VIA train derailment was a derailment that occurred on February 26, 2012 in the Aldershot neighborhood of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, resulting in three deaths and 46 injuries. There were 75 passengers and four crew members on board at the time of the accident. The derailment occurred in an industrial area northeast of Aldershot GO Station.
Derailment
On February 26, 2012, Via Rail train 92, an eastbound passenger train travelling the Corridor route from Niagara Falls, Ontario to Toronto, Ontario, derailed in an industrial area east of King Road, north of Enfield Road in the Aldershot neighborhood of Burlington, Ontario.
Investigation
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is the federal agency responsible for investigating incidents that occur with rail transportation, and has launched an investigation into the Burlington derailment. The investigation could take several months. The main investigator-in-charge is Tom Griffith, who has been a senior investigator with the TSB since 1990. He has led 28 other rail investigations in his career.
To date, Griffith has indicated that of the three crew members killed, one was in training, and may have been at the controls at the time of the accident. To date, it is unknown which crew member was in control of the locomotive at the time of the derailment.
