Puntland Independence Movement

Puntland Independence Movement (PIM) is a political movement that seeks the restoration of the sovereignty of Puntland Region, formerly The Norther Sultanates, in Somalia. The organizing members of this group include, members of the Darod Clan (Ismail Al Jaberty) including the Tanada Subclan, Harti Subclan, Awrtable (Yussuf) Subclan and The Arab Saleh Clan of the larger mehri clan. The objectives of the group include complete and unconditional secession and restoration of sovereignty of the area known as Puntland.
The people and the government of Puntland had immensely invested in the reconstitution of former Somalia with no credible outcome since 1991. These tremendous efforts exhausted in securing and reconstituting the former Somalia has indeed weakened the national economy of Puntland. More importantly however, it is evident that the issue of reviving Somalia adds no imidiate value nor any long term benefits to the betterment and progress of Puntland. We therefore urge to declare full and unconditional independence form the former Somalia based on pre-existing sovereignty of the region prior to the colonial rule. Currently PIM policy includines establishment of friendly working relationships with (1) Central/Southern Somalia (2) Jubbaland and (3)The Republic of Somaliland.
Puntland Independence Movement intends to prioritize Puntland's interests to foster development and investment within the state of Puntland. PIM recognize the importance of economic well being of the state as a serious national security interes. PIM recognizes the interests of the State in Southern Somalia particularly Jubbaland. In addition, PIM strives for a solid, resolute and peaceful political settlement to the issue of Sool and Sanaag to ensure their peramanency as regions of Puntland.
