Pungeon crawler

Definition

A "Pungeon Crawler" is an action adventure dungeon crawling game where the main focus of the game is not so much on the action and on fighting other enemies, but is focused on puzzle solving, and adventuring through the area.

Examples

In the Tomb Raider series, there are many dungeons, tombs, and caves which have many different puzzle elements. In Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, there is a dungeon named the "Water Temple" which cannot bew solved unless you have all the necessary items.

Origin

The term "Pungeon Crawler" comes from a broadcast of Four Player Podcast, a popular podcast on Justin.tv. On August 23rd, 2008, Brad, one of the people who runs his podcast, creates "Pungeon Crawler" while playing Tomb Raider. He mistakenly said "pungeon" instead of "puzzle/dungeon". He decides that "Pungeon Crawlers" needs to be a new subgenre of gaming since its primary focus is on puzzle solving and adventuring around the designated area.
