Private Richard Arnold was a mutineer shot for his part in the Ware Mutiny of 15 November 1647. He was a foot soldier in the New Model Army (NMA) and was part of Colonel Robert Lilburne's foot regiment. The Commander-in-Chief of the army who ordered the sentence was General Sir Thomas Fairfax. Also present at Corkbush Field were Lieutenant-General Oliver Cromwell and Commisary-General Henry Ireton. The first, second and third in command of the NMA were present in the field. Three men had been found guilty after the court-martial. They drew lots to see who would shoot the loser and Arnold lost.
