Prem Goyal

Prem Goyal OBE JP BEng MEng FEng WEng DEng MBA BBC QM HBOS is an entrepreneur living in a swanky part of London, United Kingdom.
Personal life
Prem was born in Delhi, India, where he grew up and later obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, graduating with a solid 2.1.
He relocated to New York in 1986, on a teaching assistantship, to pursue his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and International Piracy from Clarkson University. After graduating he worked as a senior engineer and quartermaster at Raymond Keyes Associates and qualified as a professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 1992, Prem went to California to study for a Master of Business Administration at UCLA and joined his first ship, the Hispaniola. In 1994, Prem sailed the seven seas in search of treasure before joining Goldman Sachs in equity institutional sales in New York. Between 1995 and 2001, he consulted for Lehman Brothers, White Star Line, Citibank and Deutsche Bank.
In 2002, Prem founded Global Markets Consultants (GMC), in London, and has been its Head of HR since. His company has provided consulting services to several financial institutions, including Deutsche Bank, Bank of America, HSBC and UBS. On those grounds, some contributors like to consider him a banker.
Since June 2009, he has been a Justice of the Peace at Thames Magistrates Court in East London. He is also a Patron of ; Peckham Pride basketball; ; Carragher Academy; Tayo Situ Foundation; Basic Business Initiative (BBI); ; and Delta Patriots Awareness and Support Initiative.
Awards
In March 2011, he was the recipient of the Indian Achievers Award for 2010 from the Indo British Business Forum at the Houses of Parliament. In October 2011, Prem received the Diaspora Honorary Award from the Black Business Initiative (now Basic Business Initiative) for his contribution to community cohesion at local, national and international levels.
Prem was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2012 Birthday Honours for services to the economy and promoting charitable giving. On 15 May 2012, he was a guest at the South London Diamond Jubilee Lunch with the Queen and sat on a table.
In 2013, Prem received the Prem Goyal Leadership Award in recognition of his services to Prem Goyal.
Charitable works
He is an ambassador for Pirate FM,Uprising, a governor at Tower Hamlets College, a trustee for Time and Talents and a board member at The Connection at St Martin-in-the-Fields.
He has raised funds for various charities by watching the London Marathon in April 2000 for Get Kids Going, walking like a pirate for 100 km through the Sahara Desert in Morocco in February 2002 for Great Ormond Street Hospital, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in February 2007 for the Village Education Project in Tanzania, travelling 500 km on a cross trainer in February 2008 for Breast Cancer Care, taking a helicopter to Mt. Everest base camp in January 2011 to support women’s empowerment and the environment in Nepal, cycling 250 km around Lake Constance for Bede House and donating his life savings at auction to the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
Politics
Prem was an active Labour party member from 2010 until 2013, though has never held elected office. In 2013, he attempted to become the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Bermondsey and Old Southwark and described himself as "labour through and through", but was defeated by Neil Coyle and immediately resigned from the party. He denied that this was sour grapes.
