Abjol Miah

Abjol Miah, is British politician, community worker and a parliamentary candidate for the Bethnal Green and Bow constituency in the next general elections. He is a member of the Respect party, and replaced George Galloway as a prospective candidate. He is the Respect opposition leader in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, and is a former drugs worker in the community. He is also the ward member of Shadwell for Respect.
Miah is of Bangladeshi descent, and brought up in the East London. He is able to speak Sylheti and English. He is also a respected member of the East London Mosque. During the local elections, Miah won over Labour's most powerful figure, Professor Michael Keith in the Shadwell ward. George Galloway travelled with Miah to Bangladesh on February 2005 to meet its prominent political leaders and families for two weeks in Sylhet, where many Bangladeshis come from in his constituency.
