Pregnancy Photography is sub category of portrait photography which subjects last period of pregnancy. The subjects of pregnant photography are always pregnant woman and sometimes family members (husband and children) of her.
Photo capturing of babies starts in pregnancy period, while baby is still in utero. Pregnancy photos document how mother was waiting for baby.
Cultural Taboo
Pregnancy photography was a taboo in many cultures. But after Demi Moore gave a pose to Vanity Fair magazine while she was pregnant for 7 months, there have been a huge change in looking to pregnant women body. This particular photo helped world to discover beauty in pregnancy.
Women can feel themselves somehow ugly and they will not want to be remembered with big belly. Some women can even thing they are fat. Photos taken by professional photographers helps mother to pass over hard periods of their life by helping them to see their own esthetic beauty.

Today it is possible to clean unwanted line structures on belly to establish an esthetic historical prove. Today photo manipulation technics can even make fat pregnant women look thinner or vice versa.
Most Suitable Time
7. and 8. Months of pregnancy are most suitable periods. Belly shouldn't be so big but it must be noticeable. If pregnant women is expecting twins then 6. Month is better.
Place
Comfort of pregnant women is the key point while choosing for place. Home studio which is a proper home with studio lighting is best place for pregnancy photography also house of pregnant subject can be used with natural light. In most cases Studio photography is not option because of hard conditions. It is so much important to keep pregnant women comfortable then other portrait photography styles like wedding photography because pregnancy causes lots of sudden changes in woman body especially third trimester (between 27th and 40th weeks) body weight causes knee and back pain. It is not comfortable for pregnant women to stay in studio. It is easier to take photos at home because of hard conditions like toilet need of pregnant women.
