Prasenjit Mitra

Prasenjit Mitra is one of the principal investigators on novel characteristics of CiteSeer which is one of the most popular search engines in the field of Computer Science with a large group of users. The new development of CiteSeer is ChemXSeer, a table search engine enabling table ranking which is an important improvement on traditional search engines.

Prasenjit Mitra is currently the assistant professor of College of Information Sciences and Technology at The Pennsylvania State University. He is also the core faculty of the , as well as at The Pennsylvania State University. His research is primarily focused on issues related to information integration and interoperation. He has 54 publications including journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, etc.

Career
Prasenjit Mitra received his Bachelor of Technology degree (with Honors) in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 1993. After that, he received a Master of Science degree in Computer Science at The University of Texas at Austin in 1994. His Doctor of Philosophy degree is in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University in 2004.

From 1995, he worked for five years at Oracle Corporation in Redwood Shores, California as a senior member of the technical staff at the Server Technologies division developing database software. He also worked part-time as a senior engineer at , and .

Research
Prasenjit Mitra’s research are focused on Database Systems, Digital Libraries, Data Security, Semantic Web, Information Retrieval, and Artificial Intelligence. He is especially interested in schema matching and ontology matching techniques. Other areas of his interests are on social text stream analysis and XML views.
