Portaneo is a French company which publishes open source solutions for the optimization of Intranets. The main solution developed is Portaneo Enterprise Portal, with its Community variation "Posh".
Portaneo Enterprise Portal
Portaneo Enterprise Portal is an Intranet portal, which "connects" on the existing applications of the Intranet to make it more customizable, collaborative and mobile. Based on a light architecture (in PHP or Java), this solution makes it possible to centralize all the applications of a company or a department in a single application, in the form of widgets or portlets. The administrators can then define, according to the different profiles, the tabs and widgets offered to the users, which is named profiling.
Each user can then further customize the tabs with the available widgets according to its rights.
A collaborative extension makes it possible to divide all the available information on the portals in order to set up logics of sharing and collective valuation of the information.
A social network makes it possible to connect the users according to their needs in information and to connect with people holding information important to other users.
A mobile version allows all these functionalities while travelling.
Compared to end-user solutions such as Netvibes or iGoogle, Portaneo is a solution installed within the company. It thus makes it possible to be connected to the existing company information without reducing security and to connect to company internal applications.
In addition, Portaneo also offers functionalities specific to the context of the organizations, such as the possibility of blocking some widgets or to use a proxy.
Posh
Posh is the Community version of Portaneo Enterprise Portal. It is the heart of the tool, and it allows to access to the main customizable and collaborative functionalities of Portaneo Enterprise Portal, including a pack of widgets. Posh can be downloaded on portaneo.com or Sourceforge.
