Popfreeradio.com is an alternative-format internet radio station based in Kansas City. The station uses the tag-line "The Antithesis of Top 40" and is hailed by as "comparable to 96.5 (KRBZ, the station's in-market FM competition) but fresher." History The station launched a test stream in September 2006 and the official popfreeradio stream launched on October 31, 2006. The station hosted its first concert on May 12, 2007 at Davey's Uptown featuring Minneapolis-based band Cloud Cult and Kansas City acts "Shudder" and "Tripp Algiers". In September 2007 the station founder and flagship show DJ, Chronic The Hedgehog was awarded Best of Kansas City 2007: Best Online Radio Personality. In October 2007 the station hosted a charity event called "Smoking For Cancer" at the American Royal Barbecue cook-off and raised money for The American Cancer Society and hair for Locks of Love including over a foot and a half of station owner, Chronic The Hedgehog's hair.
