Poonam Kaur Sandhu

Poonam (Kaur) Sandhu (born March 29, 1991 in Vancouver, BC, Canada) is a women's field hockey player. She has been featured in the East Indian magazine Mehfil as of 2008.
Sandhu was recently signed on to the Canadian national field hockey team.
Personal life
Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Sandhu is the first child of Nick and Jinder Sandhu. As a child, Sandhu grew up speaking a mixture of English and Punjabi at home. Sandhu's interest in field hockey began very young as her father represented Canada on the men's field hockey team in the Olympics. Her parents signed her up for the very first girls team on the India Club<ref name=autogenerated1 /> at the age of nine.
Education

Sandhu attended John Henderson Annex from Kindergarten to grade 5. She then attended John Henderson Elementary from grades six to seven. She is currently attending John Oliver Secondary School having her grade 12 year in September. She is as well currently deciding the University of her choice.
Field hockey
At the age of 14, Sandhu made the Under-14 team. The following year, she made the Under-16 Provincial team and came in second place. Although she was playing in the Under-16 team, she was playing in an Under-19 tournament. In 2007, She played for the Under-16 Can-ams team and for the Under-18 Provincial A-Team. She was recently signed onto the Womens Senior National Team and was carded for the first time.
