Poetry Quebec (PQ) is an online poetry magazine founded by Canadian poets Endre Farkas, Elias Letelier, and Carolyn Marie Souaid. Its first issue, launched in June 2009, was a special tribute to Canadian poet and critic Louis Dudek, author of over two dozen books of poetry, criticism, and other work. Poetry Quebec was founded to ensure that the important contributions of Quebec’s English language poets be remembered, recognized, and archived; and to redress an imbalance that began in the 1970s when most of the national and international literary spotlight on Quebec began to focus almost exclusively on its French language literature and writers. PQ’s mandate is “to be engaged and inclusive and to provoke healthy debate” and more specifically to publish the poetry of the English language poets of Quebec as well as articles and essays by contributors from around the world that do not always reflect the opinions of its editors. Contributors to the magazine have included poets from Quebec and elsewhere, including George Bowering, Stephanie Bolster, Robyn Sarah, David Solway, Bruce Whiteman, Mark Abley, and Mary di Michele.
