Planned Parenthood of Illinois

Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL) is a 501 c(3) not-for-profit organization and is an affiliate of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). PPIL's 17 health centers throughout the state of Illinois deliver comprehensive reproductive health care services and sexual health information to over 65,000 women, men, and teens each year. PPIL provides preventative services that help women, families, and communities stay healthy including: life saving cancer screenings, breast health care, well-woman exams, contraceptive services, STD prevention and treatment. PPIL educational programs bring comprehensive, age appropriate and medically accurate, sexual health education to classrooms and communities. Through its advocacy work, PPIL advocates for reproductive health care rights in the Illinois General Assembly, with government agencies, and local governments.
Mission
Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL) believes that reproductive self-determination, with effective sexuality education and access to family planning and related services, is necessary to enhance the quality of life, preserve individual opportunity and serve the interests of the family.
Based on this belief, PPIL's mission is to:
* Provide, or cause to be provided, effective reproductive health services, especially for those who do not have adequate resources in settings which preserve and protect the privacy, dignity and essential rights of the individual.
* Provide, or cause to be provided, education which ensures an understanding of sexuality and its implications for the individual, the family and society.
* Initiate, advocate and cause to be implemented, public and private policies which guarantee reproductive self-determination and the services and resources necessary to ensure it.
History
Medical Services
PPIL's 17 health centers offer comprehensive reproductive health care services including:
* Gynecological exams
* Clinical breast exams
* Comprehensive birth control services
* Emergency contraception (morning after pill)
* Male health services
* Sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment
* Pregnancy testing and options counseling
* HIV testing and counseling
* Gardasil (HPV vaccine)
* TWINRIX (Hepititis A & B vaccine)
* Colposcopy* and LEEP*
* In-clinic abortions from 6 weeks to 17 weeks and 6 days*
* Abortion pill up to 9 weeks*
* Colposcopy, LEEP and abortion services are not available at all locations.
Ten PPIL health centers receive federal Title X funding. Services at these health centers are provided on a sliding scale fee.
Education Programs
Education topics include: reproductive health care, decisions regarding sex, healthy relationships, parent-child communications, abstinence, teen pregnancy, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, religion and sexuality and community resources.
Public Policy
PPIL works to defend and increase access to family planning services, abortion, and medically accurate, age appropriate comprehensive sex education through the legislative arena. Public Policy activities include:
* Monitoring local, state, and national policies
* Educating the public and government officials
* Mobilizing activists through the Planned Parenthood Action Network
