Planet of the Dogs

Planet of the Dogs is a series of illustrated fantasy-adventure first chapter books for early readers.
They were written by Robert J McCarty and illustrated by his wife, Stella Mustanoja-McCarty between the years 2006 and 2008. The publishers, Barking Planet Productions, hold a copyright for all the books in the Planet of the Dogs series and hold a trademark for the name/title Planet of the Dogs. The next book, Planet of the Dogs, A Travel Guide, is scheduled for publication in 2010.
Basic concept
Far out in the sky, on the other side of the sun, is the Planet of the Dogs. Dogs have always lived there in peace and happiness.
There came a time, long, long ago, when the abundance and happiness found on earth were threatened. Many people had forgotten how to love. Warrior tribes were invading the lands of peaceful people, taking their homes and farms.
When the dogs learned of the problems on Earth, they knew that they must help.
The Planet of the Dogs stories are the adventuresome tales of the first time dogs came to Earth. Through their bravery, strength, cunning, innate talents and unconditional love, the dogs teach people about love and bring peace to the land.

* Castle in the Mist: This is the story of how the dogs came down to planet Earth to prevent war in the land of the forest people and free the kidnapped children from the Castle in the Mist.
* Snow Valley Heroes, A Christmas Tale: Two of Santa’s reindeer, Dasher and Dancer, were kidnapped by the King of the North, and there was to be no more Christmas. This is the story of how the dogs came down to planet Earth, freed the reindeer from the Ice Castle, and saved Christmas forever.

* Daisy and Bean, a brother and sister who live in Green Valley and are the first humans to visit the Planet of the Dogs.
* Bik, chieftain of the Stone City warriors and his children, Nik and Nikki.
* Prince Ukko, chief of the Black Hawk warriors plays a major role in Castle in the Mist.
* Santa Claus, the elves, the King of the North, and Paoli, leader of the Tundra Town Traders, have major roles in Snow Valley Heroes, A Christmas Tale.
* The primary, recurring dog characters are Lucy, Robbie and Buddy (the first dogs to come to planet Earth); and Miss Merrie, Queen of the dogs.
