Plague metal

Plague Metal was first created in the early 90s. The sound originated from Cleveland and happened around the same time as grunge. The genre combines elements of Death Metal and Deathcore. Lyrics are usually very simple and very straightforward, often being about death, infection, decapitation and sometimes cannibalism.
The Early 90s
There was a short burst of plague metal bands in Cleveland but many of the did not last long. The main two Plague metal bands from the early 90s were Death, Death, Death and Tower of Corpses. These bands were very much underground with a very small amount of success. When grunge exploded in the mid 90s this signaled the death of Plague Metal with many of the Plague Metal fans listening to grunge instead. Many of the Plague Metal bands changed musical direction or folded up during the mid 90s. When both Death, Death, Death and Tower of corpses folded up due to drug abuse and band dynamics this signaled the end of Plague Metal for the next decade.
00s
Early 2005 saw a revival of Plague Metal with many metal bands re-discovering the genre. Since then Plague Metal has grown even more with many new bands forming such as Haemorrhage of the Aorta, Living Maggots In Your Ears and the critically acclaimed Puss The genre is constantly growing more and more. There has also been recent rumour of Tower of Corpses having a reunion tour in early 2009
