Many students have been together before in other groups, such as the South Placer Youth Symphony and the STAR youth orchestra. Trivia Director Margie Hartung was a member of the Junior Philharmonic of Los Angeles under Ernst Katz, who started the orchestra in 1937. The 2009-2010 season begins Wednesday, October 7th Valley Springs Presbyterian Church 2401 Olympus Dr. Roseville, CA 95661 . Practices are held on Wednesday evenings. Besides the Intermediate / Advanced Orchestra, numerous ensembles (e.g., flute choir, jazz ensembles, brass and woodwind quartets and quintets, string quartets) have been a part of the orchestra. Groups have typically been started based on interest. Also, the PCYO has a branch called the Junior String Orchestra geared towards younger, less-experienced string players .
