Pittsburgh 2012 Olympic bid

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania made a bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics. However, it gained little support among the U.S. Olympic Committee, which determines the city which will be presented to the IOC. New York City was eventually selected. Most of the organization for the bid was done by Michael S. Monaco, an engineering student at Carnegie Mellon University and an Olympic junkie who had been working on the project since 1996. While his proposals received some publicity from the local media, the local government did little to truly lobby for a victory. Many local sports columnists and writers also dismissed the idea as unrealistic . On his website, Monaco outlined his somewhat vague proposals and gave general reasons why the games should be hosted in the "Golden Triangle". The official bid was done by the Pittsburgh Olympic Bid Committee, of which Monaco was the sole member.
