Busan bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics

Busan 2020 is a proposed bid for Busan, South Korea, to host the 2020 Summer Olympics. If successful, it would be the second time South Korea hosted the Summer Olympics, after the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. Busan had not previously bid for the Summer Olympics. The city has previously hosted the 2002 Asian Games. The decision is scheduled to be made at the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aries, Argentina, in 2013. The bid will only be made if Pyeongchang fails it bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
History
The first plans for Busan to host the games were in 2005. In July 2007, the Busan Olympic Citizen Organization had been created, chaired by Kim Jong-yul, was established. In March 2009, Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik announced the city's intent to host the games, and that an application would be due in 2011. The mayor stated in April that the bid was conditional that Pyeongchang would not win their bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics, and stated that their chances were slim. The city has previously hosted the 2002 Asian Games, and the mayor stated that the international renown gained from it would be an advantage for the bid. He has also rejected co-bidding for both the Summer and Winter Olympics.
