Pilgrim Cemetery

In 1833 Pilgrim Church and Cemetery was established near the present town of Elkhart, Texas. This was the First Baptist Church established in Texas. The founder Elder Daniel Parker and his family after traveling to this location in 1833 by Wagon Train from Clark County, Illinois.

The land that Pilgrim Church and Cemetery was originally established on in 1833 was located in Houston County but after the forming of the Republic of Texas the county lines were redrawn which placed it in present day Anderson County, Texas.

*Elder Daniel Parker

Daniel Parker was the son of Elder John Parker, and brother to Silas Mercer Parker and Benjamin W. Parker, who were all killed on May 19th, 1836 at the Fort Parker massacre in Groesbeck Texas by Native Indians.
