Pier Augusto Gemignani

Pier Augusto Gemignani (Born on 3rd July, 1930 and died on 31st October, 1997), was an italian M.D. He was Sanitary Director of Hospital Ente Ospedaliero Ospedali Galliera in Genoa for circa 20 years.

Biography

He was born in Genoa, on the 3rd of July 1930. He was a great reader since childhood, especially books about nature, literature and science. He was fond of Entomology and Botany.
When the Second World War broke up, his family fled to the small town of Camogli, but they were forced to flee again to the ligurian hinterland, due to air bombings made by the allies.

At the end of the war, he returned to Genoa, and got graduated as Doctor of Medicine in 1956. He was raised to the military service in 1957, in which he became a medical captain of the italian 21st infantry Regiment. He left the army in 1958.

He was then employed by the Comune of Genoa in the "Sanity and Hygiene Office", and also as a School Doctor and General Doctor.

In the seventies, he was taken off to the "Sanitary Direction" staff of the second largest genoese hospital, the Ente Ospedaliero Ospedali Galliera, and eventually he became the head of the department in 1980.

He got married in 1975, and had two sons.

He was a teacher in the Genoese University, and particularly in the Hygiene and Hospital Techniques' courses. He also was a member of the Sanitary regional Committee, and member of the Società Ligure di Storia Patria.

He led the scientifical magazine "Pathologica", founded by Mario Segale in 1908. He was author of many scientific and historical medicine documents.

Pier Augusto Gemignani died for an illness, on the 31st day of October 1997.

Human figure

According to professor Luigi Robert, who wrote an affectionate epitaph, Gemignani,

Gemignani was also a great lover of his Liguria, and spent many of his little free time, in exploring the various villages of the genoese hinterland, stopping by to speak to the peasants and the citizens. He was able to speak with the same dignity with them, as he did with doctors and professors.
