Phuket pearl farm is one of the main sea pearl producer and pearl jewelry manufacturer in Phuket island, Thailand. Company is known as the largest and the oldest pearl jewelry maker in Southern Thailand. As a family business Phuket Pearl began in 1967. From a small pearl farm it grew up into a bigger pearl farm, the pearl jewellery shop and the pearl jewelry factory. Company is known under such trademarks as PHUKET PEARL CO.,LTD. and AMORN. Farm history Initially in 1967 the Pearl farm was created to grow oysters and mollusks for food. And later, when pearl framing was introduced by Japanese immigrants the oyster farm turned into pearl farm. Almost at the same time Phuket island is starting to develop as a tourist destination. In 1993, the company successfully cultured and harvested its first perfectly round pearl (pearl shapes) - the rarest shape for a cultured pearl - after working with several universities to carry out research on pearl cultivation. In 2003, the company succeeded in producing a Rather Round Pearl and applied for a patent for its method to produce the pearl. The RRP is a cross between the distinctive South Sea Pearl and the Mabe Pearl, and it has a gold-rainbow colour. Tsunami 2004 significantly damaged pearl farm. Most of facilities had to be rebuilt. Provided by pearl farm research showed that chemical portions of the sea minerals along coastal line were slightly changed which impacted pearl farming process. Old technologies had to be adjusted for new mineral levels.
