Philip McCluskey (born November 2, 1976) is an American raw food author, motivational speaker, and blogger. A prominent figure within the raw food community, he first garnered nationwide attention in 2008 when he appeared as a guest on daytime Emmy Award winning CBS talk show The Doctors. The show segment featured the top ten medical trends of the year, one of which was the raw food diet. McCluskey appeared on stage holding a pair of oversize jeans that used to fit his formerly 400-pound frame, and told the audience that a 100% raw food lifestyle had helped him lose over 200 pounds within a two year period. A raw vegan since 2006, Philip McCluskey has since been a spokesman for the raw food community, providing information about the raw lifestyle through various speaking engagements, books and DVDs, and his website, lovingraw.com. He also co-hosts a community hub and blog with raw foodist Dhrumil Purohit at welikeitraw.com. Before adopting a raw food regimen, McCluskey claims he tried to lose weight - and failed - in at least thirty different ways, including buying gym memberships, trying fad diets, signing up for Weight Watchers, and working out along to exercise videos. He credits raw food with helping him lose weight without the use of drugs, surgery, or other unnatural methods. Although he was initially scheduled to undergo gastric bypass surgery, he never followed through with the procedure. At his heaviest, Philip McCluskey weighed over 400 pounds and was consuming 6,000-8,000 calories per day. He has cited a trip to Europe, where a woman had asked him how he managed to become so big, as a critical turning point for his weight loss efforts. Books Published McCluskey’s published raw food recipe books include Raw Food Fast Food: Simple Recipes, Faster than Takeout (ISBN 1449904130) and Raw Food Salad Bar: Simple Soups and Salads (ISBN 1451591632). His upcoming books include Raw Food Carob Desserts (co-authored with raw chef Heather Pace), and The World’s Sexiest Diet. Videos Produced McCluskey produced two raw food DVDs, Transforming Your Life with Raw Food and Living Cuisine for Weight Loss.
